Principal Message
Dear Families,
Term 4 has begun with a bang as exemplified last week with our school Talent Quest and Splash and Dash afternoon. The Talent Quest enabled many of our very talented students to perform and 'wow" the audience with their incredible skills and talents. The day culminated with our inaugural "Splash and Dash" afternoon. Again, this was an amazing day with the students, parents and staff having so much fun. A massive thank you to our fantastic Parent Forum who organised and coordinated the event.
This week our Year 5 students went on their school camp to Midginbil (out past Murwillumbah & Uki). The students had a fantastic time although they (and the staff) looked a little weary on their return. A big thank you to Mrs Davies, Miss McMahon and Mr Towensend who gave up their time to be with the students for the three days and two nights.
All three camps went ahead this year (Yr 4 Camp Goodenough, Yr 5 to Midginbil, Yr 6 Sydney / Canberra) - this is the first time since Covid - hence a hiatus of two years. Congratulations to the students who all behaved themselves and represented the school so well and a BIG THANK YOU to the staff who gave their time so willingly!
Our Year 3 & 4 students went to Murwillumbah on Friday to watch a live theatrical performance of "James and the Giant Peach". Giving the Stage 2 students an experience of live theatre is a wonderful opportunity. This is normally a yearly event, but due to Covid this has not been possible. Hopefully it will resume as an annual event.
Next week is Book Week - so lots happening! Book Parade, Grandparents / Friends Day, guest author and so much more! Check the school calendar for times and events - remember you are ALL WELCOME!!!
On Monday our Year 3 - 6 Sport electives commence. Again, the school will provide some fantastic experiences for all children - surfing, kayaking, basketball, lawn bowls, tennis, jujitsu and much more.
Finally, on Wednesday night the Parent Forum will be facilitating a parent evening on SOCIAL MEDIA SAFETY. With the inevitable usage of social media and student access to technology, this workshop is applicable to all families - I would strongly encourage you to come along! The workshop commences at 6.30pm in the school hall (light refreshments beforehand) and runs for approx one hour. Baby sitting is provided. If you wish to attend please register (see the attached flyer in this newsletter for further details).
Have a great weekend!
Regards,
Brian Laybutt

SCHOOL CAR PARK
A big thank you to the motorists who are arriving in the afternoon and following the new guideline of parking before 3.00pm. Since this has been operational we now do not have a queue of cars blocking Charles St off before 3.00pm. Cars are now able to access the school before 3.00pm and park in the carpark. Pete our Road Traffic Manager has informed me that the amount of motorists overtaking in Charles St has almost diminished. Clearly overtaking a queue of cars in Charles St is highly dangerous and illegal (overtaking on double yellow lines and on a Pedestrian Crossing!!).
Promoting and creating a safe environment for all children and families is our number one priority!
THANK YOU!!!

Community News
Pottsville Community Association
To Whom It Concern,
As President of our Pottsville Community Association I wish to extend the invitation to the parents of your students to our Annual General Meeting on October 25th at 6.30pm St Marks Anglican Church opposite the chemist.
It is important for our community to have this association as a central voice and support for our needs and funding for projects. The Pottsville Community Association would benefit from new members with fresh ideas, views as to what our community needs and continuing with current projects.
Currently we have 6 sub committees – Rock Wall/Masterplan, Skate park/Pump Track, Seabreeze School Site, Beach/Dune Care, Community-Led Resilience Team for Emergencies and Pottsville Community Garden. Also in discussion with the Tweed Shire Council is the use of the Environment Park Facility by our community.
I have attached the documentation for the AGM and look forward to seeing new faces attending. Please feel free to contact me by email if there are any queries.
Kind regards,
Wendy Pluckrose
