Newsletter Week 2, Term 3 2022
Principal Message
Dear Families,
What a difference a week makes - last Friday was a cold, windy, wet miserable day and today blue skies and sunshine - perfect for the Zone athletics carnival and importantly the much anticipated SCHOOL DISCO!! Yes the disco will definitely be on tonight after numerous failed attempts. We are all looking forward to a fabulous night!
Last week the staff participated in a Staff Development Day that focused on “Positive Growth Mindset”. The day enabled us all review our own personal mindset and provided strategies in developing a positive growth mindset. It is envisaged that some of the techniques and strategies discussed will be embedded into our classrooms. Currently each Monday morning, within our school assembly, we highlight an area of wellbeing that the school and classes will focus on. In addition to this we will highlight strategies around mindset that can be used by students not only in the class but in the playground and in their normal day to day lives.
On Wednesday night the school held its termly Parent Forum Meeting. A big thank you to those parents who attended and to those who streamed it through Facebook. A number of upcoming events were discussed including the Disco, Movie Night, Father's Day stall & Breakfast and the Splash & Dash event. Bec Mander also shared information about the distribution of funds raised from our School Fair. All funds raised were directed to those within our community who were adversely affected by the floods. A massive thank you and congratulations to the school community and in particular to the Parent Forum Committee for providing much needed financial assistance to those who are in need. St Ambrose is a wonderful school community and this act of generosity and compassion clearly exemplifies this.
As you would have been made aware the current outbreak of Flu and Covid 19 is impacting many within our community. Our school has not been spared! We have many students and Staff currently away due to illness. With staffing this has compromised our supply of relief teachers to the extent we are struggling to find relief teachers to cover classes. I ask for your patience and understanding if classes need to be “split” for a day - whilst it is not our desired outcome, unfortunately in some situations it will be unavoidable.
Hopefully the sunshine will last and you will have the opportunity to go outside and enjoy a lovely weekend.
Keep well and best wishes,
Brian Laybutt,
PRINCIPAL
STAFFING NEWS
Congratulations to our Yr 5 teacher Miss Caitlin Martin who will be getting married on Friday 5th August. We wish Caitlin and Rory all the very best for the day and trust that their lives together will be filled with great happiness and good health.
We welcome - Pete - our new Road Crossing Supervisor. Pete will be supervising the Charles St Crossing Monday to Friday from 8.15 - 9.15 a.m. and from 2.45 to 3.45p.m. Pete will ensure safe access across Charles St. We welcome Pete to our school community and I am sure you will all make him feel very welcome.
In 2023 St Ambrose will move into a new School Leadership model. The role of Assistant Principal will be shared amongst two people. This will entail the appointment of a second Assistant Principal. Mrs Chelsea Fisher will be Assistant Principal - Teaching & Learning (currently Mrs Beacroft is Acting Assistant Principal while Mrs Fisher is on maternity leave), the second Assistant Principal will be - A.P. Mission. The position of Assistant Principal - Mission will be advertised from the 2nd August with the appointment being made in early September.
Congratulations to two of our staff members who are expecting babies later this year : Celia Mulder (Yr 1 & 2) is expecting her second child and Lauren Ayres (Yr 4) is expecting her first baby - both are due in November!!
Sadly, Mr Robby Cenda has tendered his resignation as Music teacher from St Ambrose. Mr Cenda has been an integral member of our school and his impact on the school, through his teaching of music and the extra curricula programme he has established and developed has been significant. Mr Cenda will finish up next Friday - 5th August. Fittingly, Friday’s assembly will involve performances from the Band /Choir and Drum line - a music extravaganza!!! It is hoped that many families can attend this assembly and give Mr Cenda a fitting farewell. We wish Mr Cenda all the best as he relocates and transitions into retirement.
