Newsletter Week 1, Term 2 2022
Principal Message
Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 2, I trust that the Easter break provided your family with a chance to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. At the end of the school holidays, our school participated in the ANZAC Day march here at Pottsville. This is a wonderful community event and I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to those families, students, and staff who were able to attend. St Ambrose had a fantastic representation on the day and in particular a big thank you to our school drumline who came together at the last moment to assist. Special thanks to Matt Johnson, who assisted with the drumline. Following ANZAC Day the school received this letter:
Dear Brian,
On behalf of the Pottsville District RSL Sub Branch I would like to send our appreciation for the attendance of the students of St Ambrose School for the march and service on ANZAC Day.
We have received many comments on how well presented and perfectly behaved the students were. In particular, the Drummers were excellent and saved the day for us, not having a Cadet Band this year. Please pass on our thanks and acknowledgment of their support.
Regards,
Bill Tannock
Treasurer/Assistant Secretary
RSL Pottsville District Sub-Branch
This term we welcome Bridie MacPhail to our staff. Bridie is a qualified Speech Therapist who will be working at St Ambrose three days a week. Bridie's role is to support teachers in developing and implementing strategies to support students who present with speech/language difficulties.
Next week is Catholic Schools Week. This is a week whereby we recognise and celebrate the wonderful role that Catholic Schools have played in educating children in Australia. In Australia today 20% of students in the country are educated in Catholic Schools i.e. one in every five children.
On Thursday we have our Mothers Day stall - gifts will be on sale for $2.00 each. Gifts are donated by the Support Auxiliary to the Carmelite Nuns in Lismore. All money raised will be donated to the Carmelitte Nuns. On Friday morning we are running our first ever Mothers Day Morning Yoga and Breakfast Morning. Many thanks to Yr 5 Teal who have coordinated this.
On Friday next week, the Zone Cross Country Carnival will be held at Murwillumbah - we wish all of our competitors the best of luck
Tuesday the 3rd of May, is school photo day - please ensure all students are in their school dress uniform NOT their sports uniform.
Finally, coinciding with Catholic Schools Week, St Ambrose will be having a SCHOOL OPEN DAY on Monday 2nd May. This is open to all families to come in and have a look at your child's class. In addition to existing families, prospective families for 2023 can book in for a school tour. For further information contact the school office.
Kindergarten enrolments for 2023 are now being taken.
Have a great weekend.
Regards,
Brian Laybutt

COVID Update April 2022
The NSW Government has announced close contacts of a confirmed COVID-19 case will not be required to isolate, provided they comply with NSW Health guidelines. This includes students.
There are no changes for positive cases: the seven-day isolation requirement remains in place for anyone who has recorded a positive RAT or PCR result. They must follow NSW Health’s Testing positive to COVID-19 and managing COVID-19 safely at home guidelines.
From 6pm on Friday 22 April, and therefore start of Term two, close contacts (defined as a household contact or an individual deemed by NSW Health to be a close contact) will not have to isolate, as long as they have no symptoms and comply with the following guidelines:
• Do not visit aged care, hospitals, disability, and correctional facilities unless a special exemption applies;
• Wear a face mask in indoor settings outside the home including school;
• Undertake daily RAT tests before coming into close contact with people outside their household, where practicable;
• Avoid contact with elderly and immunocompromised persons where possible;
• Notify their school that they are a close contact, and that they are not required to isolate as long as they comply with the above. (Secondary students will be required to wear masks while indoors at school)
• Close contacts will need to comply with the above guidelines for 7 days from the time a person in their household tested positive for COVID-19.
Further information will be provided to you as it comes to hand.
If you identify as close contact and require RAT tests, please contact the office to assist you 02 6676 0099
