Newsletter Week 7, Term 1 2022
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Whilst school is returning back to normal there are still many families grappling with the aftermath of the floods. If the school is able to assist in any way, please reach out and contact us.
Today Yr 5 ran a Solar Buddy Fundraiser (see more details below). This involves the students creating small solar panelled lights that can be used by children in third world countries. The lights will enable these students to read and write at night time.
Yr 7 enrolments for 2023 will need to be submitted shortly if you are thinking of enrolling at either St Joseph's College, Banora Point or Mt St Patrick College, Murwillumbah. St Joseph's Banora Point will have their Parent Evening on the 22nd March from 6.00 - 7.30pm in their College Hall. Mt St Patrick College will be holding a Parent Information Evening on Thursday the 7th April. More details regarding both these events will be sent home. I encourage you strongly to make the time to visit both schools if you are thinking of a Secondary School Catholic Education.
Thank you to those who were able to attend our school assembly last Friday. All parents and friends are very welcome. The assembly will commence at 2.30pm and concludes around 3.00pm This week's assembly item will be presented by 2 Gold. We will continue to pre-record the assembly and show it on the day, as this allows those who are unable to attend the assembly the opportunity to still see it. Monday morning assemblies will remain as class Zoom Meetings.
Next Friday the school Cross County will be held, this is held at the school. K, Yr 1 & Yr 2 fun run 1km, U8/9/10's run 2km and the u/11 & 12 age groups run 3km. The top 6 students in each age group (u/8 - u/12) will be selected to represent the school at the Zone Cross County carnival to be held on Friday 6th May.
Don't forget our School Fair is rapidly approaching Saturday 2nd April. We are still seeking volunteers to help on the day - if you are able to assist you would be greatly welcomed. Tickets are on sale for the rides, so get in early. All proceeds from the Fair will be donated to those who suffered loss during the floods. This is a wonderful gesture from our amazing Parent Forum! We are all looking forward to a fantastic day!
It is so nice to see parents, carers and friends back into the school. Just a reminder that if you want to volunteer as a class helper (excursions, reading, sport etc) you must be double vaxed, have a current WWC check and provide some ID (drivers license). This information must be verifiedbefore you are able to participate in activities.
As you may be aware, last week Mrs Carter had her baby boy Hugo and this week Mrs Megan Longden will be taking maternity leave finishing up this Friday. Megan is due next week! We wish Megan and her husband Matt all the very best as they welcome their first child.
Have a great weekend,
Best wishes,
Brian Laybutt

A Reminder: Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation)
To the students who will be receiving the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation). This celebration will occur on Tuesday 5th April, 6:00pm at St Anthony’s Church, Kingscliff.
Please note further information will be sent home to these families in the near future.
St Joseph’s Feast Day Saturday 19th March
On this day we remember Joseph, husband of Mary and father of the Holy Family. We are invited by Pope Francis to reflect on and imitate the creative courage of St Joseph. Joseph was courageous in taking on the responsibility of becoming the husband of Mary and the legal father of Jesus and all that those two roles entailed. As we follow Joseph in the Gospel, we see how he could turn a difficulty into a possibility with his trust in the providence of God.
Third Week of Lent
This Sunday we move into the Third week of Lent. As we do we remember all who have suffered in the recent floods.

Yr 5 Solar Buddy Jelly Cup Fundraiser
Thank you to all our familes who contributed to our Yr 5 Solar Buddy fundraiser. The fundraiser generated almost $1,500 dollars! This will allow teachers to purchase 50 solar lights for our students to construct.
Did you know? Each night, 789 million people are plunged into complete darkness since they don't have equal access to clean energy. They depend on primitive forms of energy like charcoal and firewood to ignite their way through the night. These forms of energy have a devastating impact on the health and well-being, economic stability, educational outcomes and the environment they live in.
