Principal Message

Dear St Ambrose Families,
As Term 3 comes to a close, I want to wish all our students a fantastic holiday! We’re so fortunate to live in such a beautiful area, with stunning beaches, peaceful creeks, scenic bike trails, walking tracks, fishing spots, and so much more to explore and enjoy.
This term has been truly wonderful, filled with great learning opportunities, targeted support and interventions, exciting excursions and incursions, STEM activities, and engaging sporting gala days. Recently, our Year 4, 5, and 6 students completed their overnight excursions. They had an amazing experience, challenging themselves, demonstrating resilience, and embodying our school values of respect and responsibility. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff who generously gave their own time away from their families to make these excursions possible. We hope these memories will last a lifetime.
Our Kindergarten, Year 1, and Year 2 students participated in an intensive swimming program this term. This valuable experience helps them develop essential lifelong skills in swimming and water safety, including stroke correction for those already proficient. We encourage all families to continue swimming instruction outside of school through lessons, surf clubs, or “Nippers” programs. Given our proximity to beaches and waterways, swimming is an essential skill for all children.
I am also delighted to congratulate Mrs. Carter on her appointment as Principal from 2026 onward. Chelsea is an outstanding educator, and I am confident she will continue to provide an excellent learning environment, foster strong community and parent relationships, and lead our school with great passion.
I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, 13th October for another exciting term!
Yours sincerely,
Brian Laybutt
Principal
Congratulations

5/6 Sports Gala Day
Last Friday, our Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed a wonderful day of sport at the annual 5 / 6 Sports Gala Day held at Arkinstall Park. Students competed alongside peers from all Catholic schools across the Tweed region, showing great enthusiasm and school spirit.
A group of 33 students proudly represented our school in the competitive competitions of netball and boys’ and girls’ soccer. They played with determination, skill, and outstanding teamwork.
Meanwhile, 76 students participated in the non-competitive activities, rotating through a variety of sports including tennis, netball, Oz-Tag, and AFL. These sessions gave everyone the chance to try new skills, enjoy team games, and simply have fun being active together.
The Gala Day was a fantastic opportunity for all students to connect with others, build confidence, and represent our school with pride. A big thank you to the organisers, parent coaches: Bronwyn Gudsell, Tim Shackell and Pete McCabe, and staff who made the day such a success.

K-2 Intensive Swimming
Over the past two weeks, our Kindergarten to Year 2 students have taken part in the Intensive Swimming Program at TRAC, Kingscliff. Each day, students built confidence in the water while learning important swimming and water safety skills. From floating and kicking to practising their strokes, everyone made wonderful progress and showed great enthusiasm. It was fantastic to see how much the students grew in both skill and confidence across the program. They also demonstrated excellent behaviour, representing our school proudly.

Year 3 Woodbridge Cup Tennis Gala Day
On Tuesday, 23rd September, our Year 3 students represented St Ambrose at the annual Woodbridge Cup Tennis event held in Pottsville.
The day was filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of tennis rallies! Students competed against other local schools, showing off the skills they have been practising in sport. From strong serves to quick footwork, they impressed everyone with their determination and teamwork on the court.
It wasn’t just about winning points, our students displayed wonderful sportsmanship. They encouraged one another, played fairly, and represented our school with pride.
A big thank you to the event organisers, teachers, and parents who supported the day.

St Ambrose Concert Band Shines at Primary Band Day Out 2025!
What a fantastic day it was for the St Ambrose Concert Band members who attended the 2025 Primary Band Day Out! Held on Friday, September 12, at Mt St Patrick's Primary School, the event was a huge success, bringing together over 100 passionate young musicians from various schools.
The day was filled with energy, collaboration, and, of course, a lot of great music. Our students had a truly memorable experience, rehearsing and connecting with fellow musicians. The supportive and vibrant atmosphere allowed them to gain invaluable experience working under different conductors and perfecting new pieces. Laughter and the sounds of instruments filled the school hall as the young musicians honed their skills together.
The day concluded with an exciting showcase concert, where all the primary bands performed the pieces they had been working on. The St Ambrose students played brilliantly, demonstrating the hard work and dedication they put into their music. The experience not only enhanced their musical abilities but also built new friendships and a stronger sense of community within the wider band network.
A huge thank you to everyone at Mt St Patrick's Primary School for hosting such a wonderful and inspiring event. Our band members had a great time and are already looking forward to their next musical adventure!

Year 6 CPR Incursion Training Course
On Monday, 15th September 2025, our Year 6 students participated in a CPR Training Course delivered by Hands on Heart Australia and proudly supported by the Cabarita Beach Pottsville Beach Lions Club.
This valuable program provided students with the opportunity to learn essential lifesaving skills. The training aimed to build their confidence in recognising and responding to emergencies, equipping them with knowledge that could one day help save a life.
We are grateful to the Lions Club for their support in bringing this program to our school and look forward to seeing our students benefit from this important learning experience.
