    Principal Message

    Dear Families,

After such a devastating week of tumultuous weather and flooding it is wonderful to welcome our students back to school. In particular we have been able to welcome family and friends back onto the school premises. Welcome!!

A reminder that volunteers are also allowed back into the school. The school and teachers will be in contact regarding helper's and volunteers. All volunteers / excursion helpers  / classroom helpers etc. are required to register at the school and provide details such as your current WWC and a Double Vax  certificate. Details on how to complete this can be found within this newsletter. Unfortunately parents / friends who have not completed the appropriate documentation cannot be considered for school volunteering.

School assemblies are now permitted. The school will continue to conduct its Monday morning assembly via zoom, whereby students are in class and birthdays are announced and upcoming weekly events are shared. Our Friday afternoon assembly will be conducted in the School Hall. At the Friday assembly, weekly awards are given out, 'busy bees" are announced and school announcements are made. One class each week will have an assembly item. This will remain as a video presentation and will be shown at the assembly. The video assembly will also be pushed out to the school community through the school newsletter, so that those family and friends who were unable to attend the assembly can still view the item.

School Fair - our School Fair will be held on Saturday 2nd April. Please see all details in the newsletter. The Fair is a carry over from last year and is shaping up to be a tremendous community event. In light of the recent devastating events all money raised will be donated to families affected by the floods. If you are able to help out in any way your assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks to the Parent Forum who are working tirelessly to put the Fair together and for their generosity in supporting such a wonderful cause.

Through the adversity of the last week one of the true shining lights to emerge is the generosity, kindness and compassion shown by our community. To see the support that affected families have had by their own family members, neighbours , community members and complete strangers has been simply amazing. It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child - it also takes a village to care for one another! Our prayers and thoughts are with all those who have endured loss and suffering.

On a brighter note we are extending our congratulations to Mrs Chelsea Carter, our Assistance Principal, who recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy - Hugo!  Mum and bub are doing very well.

Parent / teacher Interviews will commence next week. Families will be given the opportunity to either speak to your teacher directly or speak to them via a Zoom meeting. I strongly encourage you to take the time to talk to your child's teacher about their progress to date and general wellbeing.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Brian Laybutt

    Religious News

During this time of Lent may we come to know Jesus more deeply and to live in His truth. We pray that we become the people Jesus calls us to be, a welcoming community alive to relationships of justice and peace.

Thursday 17th March - Feast Day of Saint Patrick
Saint Patrick was a bishop who preached the love of Christ in Ireland. As God sent Saint Patrick to teach the Gospel to the people of Ireland, so may we bring peace and joy to others.

    Sports

There is so much happening this term in sport! Below are just a few of the results and upcoming events at St Ambrose school.

    Tennis News
On the 25th February Ben Spotswood and Sophia Levings attended the Polding Tennis trials in Gunnedah (boys) and Tamworth (girls) respectively. Well done to you both for making the trip and competing so well.

A big congratulations to Ben Spotswood who ranked number one player for the boys and will compete later this year at the NSWPSSA tennis championships.

    AFL News
This coming Monday the 14th March we have coaching specialists from AFL Sporting Schools NSW coming to school to implement a 4 week program for Years 3 to 6.

The AFL Sporting Schools Program has been developed to promote AFL and aims to introduce children to Australian Football through fun, engaging and challenging games and activities that are suited and adapted for a range of age groups and skill levels. The curriculum is linked to specific educational outcomes achieved through practising the core skills of the game and experiencing modified match play.

We are looking forward to students getting involved and having fun!

There is no cost for years 3 to 6 students and this is held during sport time and links closely to curriculum outcomes.

    Hockey News
Each year Hockey Tweed holds its annual year 5 and 6, stage 3 GALA DAY - The Fitzpatrick Shield. This event was going to be held on the 23rd March at Hockey Tweed Turf facility in Murwillumbah. Unfortunately due to flooding in the Murwillumbah area the Gala day looks due to be postponed until term 2.

Students who attended this event last year had a great day and we hope to get interested year 5 and 6 students attending again this year. So if you are interested in having a go at hockey for the first time, or already play we will be taking names down next week.

    Important dates

    • Two more Tuesdays of running club - 8am on the school oval.
